A DEFIANT Machynlleth environmental campaigner who is set to find out today whether she will be imprisoned has said she is “preparing for the worst”.

Kara Moses, 32, was among 13 protesters, three of whom are from Machynlleth, who were last month told by a judge they should expect to be jailed after being convicted of aggravated trespass and entering a security restricted area of an aerodrome during a protest at Heathrow Airport on 13 July last year.

The protesters, campaigning against expansion at Heathrow, were arrested after they cut through the perimeter fencing of the airport and made their way to the north runway, where they built a tripod out of scaffolding poles. The group then surrounded themselves with metal fencing and locked themselves to the structure with arm locks filled with expanding foam, causing flight cancellations and delays as specialist officers were called to safely remove them.

Ms Moses will appear for sentencing at Willesden Magistrates’ Court, London, alongside Rebecca Sanderson, 28, and Richard Hawkins, 32, both of Machynlleth, and the 10 other people convicted.

Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Ms Moses remained upbeat, saying she was “feeling pretty good” and was keeping things in perspective.

She said: “I’m down in London having left Machynlleth on Friday, and have mostly been getting stuff ready, tying up loose ends and a lot of legal stuff. I am feeling pretty good - we are a strong group an are supporting each other, but we just want it over and done with now.”
