THE journey of young people, as they start their life at sea, is the theme of an exhibition being held at a Nefyn maritime museum this month.
The exhibition Making Waves/Hwylio ‘Mlaen, held at the Llyn Maritime Museum at St Mary’s Church, follows the journey of the young people of the Llyn Peninsula over the course of a year.
The project aims to showcase the living maritime culture and future maritime heritage of the area.
The images, videos and stories recorded by the local young people, aim to not only highlight the diverse opportunities for maritime careers both locally and internationally, but also become a record of the creation of the maritime heritage of the present for the future.
Taking up the challenge to engage with a youth audience, this innovative exhibition was developed and managed by one of the museum’s young trustees and committee members, Jamie Davies, 24, from Nefyn.
It was borne out of the recognition that too often museum exhibitions are focused on the past, not the future, which Jamie believes is especially true of maritime museums.
