I wish to say that I totally agree with what Allan Phillips said in his letter - published last week - concerning the politicisation of UK police forces since the introduction of police and crime commissioners.

I have always been of theopinion that this extra level of bureaucracy together with its associated costs would be of little or no benefit to the general public. I still hold that view.

As there appears to be nocanvassing of the general public other than via a leaflet, I resort to invalidating my vote by writing a suitable comment on the voting paper suggesting the post be abolished or at least restricted to non-politicians. But no doubt, I protest in vain!

As Mr Phillips said: a very sad day for policing.
