Editor,
The letter from Ian MacIntyre shows a proper concern for the people of Fairbourne.
However his attribution of their plight to an “act of God” is wholly erroneous. No god or gods are involved. Global warming and consequent sea level rises are caused by the actions of human beings over quite some time.
The problem is that the situation is getting worse, and none of us are doing enough about it.
The evidence of global warming, its human cause, and its increasingly devastating effects has been growing for over 40 years.
Significant populated areas of our north coast, and large parts of the cities of South Wales are under threat, along with millions of people around the world. If we do not slow or reverse global warming it will be beyond the resources of anybody to compensate the victims.
Meanwhile our national newspapers, at a time of a general election, are filled with nonsense about the goings on of princes and princesses, who should have been confined to fairy stories years ago.
All of us, and the candidates of all parties, should attend to the major issues, and face up to the global threat.
