THE Fairy Doors of Aberaeron are back.

Parents and children alike were dismayed to discover that around 50 of the beautifully-crafted fairy doors of terracotta clay mounted on tree trunks lining the woodland walk along the disused railway line towards Llanerchaeron had been vandalised last month.

A woman walking through the woods came across two young boys breaking the doors and chased them from the scene.

But this week fairy-lovers were celebrating the news that replacement doors had been fitted along the ‘Fairy Trail’ as well as around the Llanerchaeron estate.

“We have had an absolutely overwhelming response from the community,” said ‘The Fairy Lady’ – whose identity remains a closely-guarded secret – told the Cambrian News.

“Apart from the loads of well wishes we’ve received on Facebook a lot of donations have been coming in. These have enabled us to replace the vandalised doors.

“It has been totally unbelievable – in a way this has given the project a bit of a boost while proving that positivity can come from negativity.

“The fairy doors don’t just appeal to children – plenty of adults also love going to see them.

“There are now 33 fairy doors dotted around the Llanerchaeron estate and 45 to 50 along The Fairy Walk.

“I’ve lost count of the total number of doors I’ve made but the recent donations have covered the whole cost of making new doors as well as leaving us with a bit extra.”
