THE family of an Aberystwyth rugby legend is making an appeal for a burial plot in Plascrug cemetery as plans are made to fly his body home from Spain.

The family of Eifion Gwynne, who died after being struck by a car following a funeral in Spain, is asking the community if it can help to secure a plot.

The 41-year-old father-of-three was involved in the accident after attending the funeral of family friend Emrys Thomas, who was living in Spain after running Autocraft auto repair shop in Aberystwyth for many years.

His wife Nia said she wanted to thank the community for “all their support and thoughts during this tough time” and urged anyone who has a reserved burial plot at Plascrug Cemetery that they no longer want or need to get in touch with the family.

She said it was Eifion’s wish to be buried in the cemetery as it is near his former schools, Ysgol Gymraeg and Penweddig, and his beloved rugby club.

Ceredigion council says that no new graves are available at the council-owned Plascrug cemetery, which remains available only for existing ‘Exclusive Right of Burial’ grant owners.

The plot owner can assign the Exclusive Rights of Burial, during their lifetime, to another individual on completion of an Assignment of Rights of Burial form.

Eifion’s body is due to be flown back to Wales soon, but funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.
