A CARDIGAN dental nurse whose daughter is suffering from a rare brain tumour says her family are “overwhelmed” by the response to their campaign to raise funds to send her to the United States for potentially life-saving medical treatment.
Abbie Dunn (right), of Fishguard, was just 19 when she was diagnosed with Craniopharyngioma, which accounts for about five per cent of brain tumours in children and young adults, in May 2013.
Her mum Helen, who works at Cardigan’s Charsfield Dental Surgery in Priory Street, said she and husband Colin had been left staggered by the reaction to their campaign.
“We have been absolutely overwhelmed,” the mum-of-five told the Cambrian News. “We just cannot believe the generosity and kindness of local people and it’s wonderful to be a part of such a caring community.
“We have also been very lucky to have had huge support from our eldest son Byron and his girlfriend Sophia in organising our campaign. They have worked very hard to help.”
The family are hoping to raise £10,000 to send Abbie to either Florida or Oklahoma so that she can receive pioneering proton beam therapy.
