The family of an Aberystwyth student who died despite being located by an RNLI crew have paid tribute to him and thanked the emergency services for their efforts and his friends for helping make him “truly happy”.
Adam Dewulf-Peters, 20, passed away on 26 January despite the RNLI crew locating him and rushing him to Bronglais Hospital after he was reported missing while he was walking toward Clarach from Aberystwyth.
Fellow students have launched a fundraising effort that has seen over £5,000 raised for the RNLI in memory of Adam, and in a statement Adam’s family said they were grateful for the efforts of the emergency services and for those people who they said helped Adam find “happiness” in Aberystwyth, a town they said he loved very much.
The statement said: “On behalf of the Dewulf-Peters family, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the members of the emergency services who were in attendance in the early hours of 26 January.
“The crews of the Aberystwyth lifeboat, Borth lifeboat, rescue helicopter 187 and members of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency located Adam, did their utmost to resuscitate him and recovered him to Bronglais Hospital.
“Although this was to no avail, it is of great comfort to our family that they did this so quickly."
The family said that Aberystwyth had become a home for Adam, a second-year international politics student from Norwich, and thanked his friends, university staff and members of the community.
