The eight-month wait to learn how Ceredigion councillor Paul James died on an Aberystwyth road has left a “dark cloud” over his family, a fellow councillor has said.

But there are hopes that progress may finally be made after Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed it had submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Cllr James passed away after a collision with a car while training for a fundraising cycle ride in April on a stretch of the A487 near Comins Coch.

While an inquest has been opened and adjourned and police have been appealing for information, nobody has yet been charged.

Cllr James’ fellow Llanbadarn Fawr councillor, Gareth Davies, said the delay was causing stress for Cllr James’ family.

While Cllr Davies said he understood the police investigation needed to be thorough, he said the eight-month delay had left the family without any answers about what happened.

He said: “Paul’s family have had this hanging like a dark cloud over their heads for months and, as part of the grieving process, need to know exactly what happened so that they can deal with it, move on and come to terms with life without Paul.”
