‘Unfair’ parking fines being meted out to motorists at Llangrannog Beach are having a detrimental impact on the local community, according to Ceredigion MP Ben Lake.
It was reported last month how motorists who parked up when the ticket machine was not working were being hit by huge fines from national firm One Parking Solution.
Local mum Esther Burge was saddled with a £100 parking fine after pulling in to the car park for 12 minutes to change her baby’s nappy. However, having been contacted by the Cambrian News, OPS subsequently decided to give Mrs Benton ‘the benefit of the doubt’ and allow her appeal.
Now Mr Lake has intervened and after meeting disgruntled Llangrannog residents this week has pledged to pursue the matter in the hope of achieving ‘a swift resolution’.
“I have been inundated with complaints over the summer months about the unfair parking fines charged at the car park in Llangrannog,” he said.
“I was glad of the opportunity to meet with local residents and businesses today to discuss the matter further.
“It is extremely concerning that this situation has arisen as it is having a detrimental impact on the local community and, indeed, what is the reputation of one of the jewels in Ceredigion’s crown.
“I shall be pursuing this further with the authorities in the hope of getting a swift resolution.”
Miss Burge previously voiced concern that the fear of incurring such fines would deter people from coming to Llangrannog.
“It has the potential to put people off,” she said.
