The former Arch Bishop of Canterbury gave a talk at a festival in Aberdaron to celebrate poet RS Thomas and artist Elsi Eldridge.

The RS Thomas & ME Eldridge Poetry and Art Festival hosted Dr Rowan Williams along with a host of other well-known figures in Welsh society to speak at the weekend event.

A packed hall at Ysgol Crud y Werin in Aberdaron listened to Dr Rowan Williams give a talk and make a presentation on the Saturday.

“Thank you, to the people of Aberdaron,” said Susan Fogarty, the director of the festival.

“This year’s festival was another great success bringing over 150 people to the village. The support of the local people was part of that success.”

Eleri Stores sold tickets; Becws Islyn and Caban Sblash provided food; Gareth Neigwl and Hafi Dorkins translated articles for Llanw Llyn; Ysgol Crud y Werin, Felin Uchaf, Eglwys St Hywyn and Porth y Swnt were venues for the different events. Behind this list are many people who worked to ensure that everything went smoothly.

“Saturday night’s concert with Côr Meibion Carnguwch and Menna Elfyn was the high light for many people,” said Susan.

The RS Thomas & ME Eldridge Society are already planning for next year’s festival on the same midsummer weekend in 2020.
