A SMALL Meirionnydd community has raised a remarkable four-figure sum following a duck race.
Abergynolwyn, a village with only a couple of hundred permanent residents, managed to sell more than 800 rubber ducks at a £1 a piece to raise money for the Abergynolwyn Village Hall.
Scores of people flooded the village last weekend to partake in the popular duck race, now in its fifth year after the age-old tradition was resurrected.
Steve Lewis, one of the race’s co-organisers, was thrilled with the day.
“We haven’t got a final sum just yet but we’ve raised well over £1,000 for the hall,” he told the Cambrian News.
“More importantly, all of the children in the area had a fun-filled afternoon, it was a hilarious day out.
“There were sack races on the day, three-legged races, tug-of-war – everyone had a great time.”
