The Porthmadog branch of Yes Cymru has held its first meeting in the town.

The group, which has the aim of gaining independence for Wales, met in the Glaslyn Leisure Centre on Monday, 20 January.

Tegwen Haf, who was voted chairperson of the group during the first meeting, said: “The meeting went extremely well. We had 13 members in attendance.

“We arranged to leaflet areas, hold another stand-in with flags on 2 March to celebrate St David’s Day and look forward to attending the march in Wrexham on 18 April.”

Tegwen added: “The next meeting is planned for 24 February at Glaslyn Leisure Centre at 6.30pm.

“Everyone is welcome, even those who are curious about independence.”

Before the new year, the group encountered a problem with people ripping down Yes Cymru stickers in Penrhyndeudraeth.

Reaching out to those responsible, Tegwen said: “All I can say is if they aren’t happy with Yes Cymru then let’s have a healthy debate and a talk regarding Welsh independence.”
