The first pictures of Bow Street’s new railway station have been revealed.
Transport for Wales said it was “excited” to show travellers the near-completed Bow Street station in a post on social media.
The pictures show the single platform, which includes a passenger waiting shelter on the platform and uncovered on-platform seating, as well as a large car park in the background.
The work is scheduled to be finished and the station operational early this year.
Bow Street county councillor Paul Hinge thanked those who helped his project, which started 10 years ago with a petition, come to fruition around “56 years after the Beeching cuts closed this stop”.
Construction work on the £8 million project began in November 2019, with the aim of being completed in the summer of 2020. However, work on the site was suspended when the Covid-19 pandemic hit and was finally resumed on 4 May 2020 with a smaller workforce.
The new station will feature a car park, a bus interchange and cycle storage, increasing accessibility to the rail network, supporting transport integration and providing an alternative to private car use.
Cllr Hinge said: “As we move towards the completion of this project and the much awaited open of the Interchange, I would like to thank everyone for their patience with traffic management systems which have been ongoing for some considerable time.
“My thanks also to the contractors both those from out of county and those local contractors for their observance of the protocols during this pandemic they have been awesome.
“The operational opening is quite close now and this is a new chapter in the move towards a lengthening and deepening of an integrated transportation system for the area and will provide the strategic infrastructure to help attract quality jobs and businesses into Ceredigion as well as provide a train/bus stop with park and ride facilities and in the near future charge points for electric vehicles.
“In conclusion, this has been a 10 year project which started from a petition I got underway all those years ago through to now having Transport for Wales’ first infrastructure project of this nature coming into operation.
“Thank you to all that have contributed to realise this dream (too many of you to mention individually), of opening a rail station back in Bow Street approximately 56 years after the Beeching cuts closed this stop.”
