Celebrate Easter this year with a host of activities being lined up by Cadw sites across north and west Wales.
Visitors to Cadw sites can explore hundreds of years of Welsh history this Easter (19–22 April) as the sights, sounds and smells of historic Wales return some of the country’s most magnificent heritage properties.
From a sword search at one of Britain’s finest surviving castles to an egg hunt at a Cistercian abbey, here are five ways families can uncover Welsh history across north and west Wales during the Easter weekend.
Find the dragon’s egg at Caernarfon Castle
Caernarfon Castle’s guards and maids are calling on brave guests to join them on a quest to search for hidden dragon eggs.
Those who dare can explore the castle’s passageways and put their bow and arrow skills to the test to track down the dragon egg. Successful participants will receive an Easter egg in return.
Trails will take place at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm on Monday, 22 April.
Hunt for eggs with the help of Ardudwy Knights at Harlech Castle
The Ardudwy Knights will take guests back in time to experience life at a castle in the 13th century with have-a-go archery, combat displays and weaponry demonstrations.
A friendly knight might even lend a hand on the Easter egg hunt.
This event is on from Saturday to Monday, 20 to 22 April, from 11am to 4pm.
An Easter egg trail with a view at Criccieth Castle
Criccieth Castle invites visitors to search for eggs while enjoying stunning views of Cardigan Bay this Easter Sunday.
But guests must be quick — there will be a chocolate prize for the first 100 children who take part.
The hunt takes place from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, 21 April.
Celebrate springtime at Strata Florida Abbey
Strata Florida Abbey will help visitors put a spring in their step this Easter with a host of crafty activities on offer.
Creative guests can try their hand at making cards, masks, puppets and much more.
An Easter bunny trail will also be taking place, with clues dotted around the abbey for families to solve.
All of this takes place on the following dates: Wednesday, 17 April, 1pm to 4.30pm; Friday to Monday, 19 to 22 April, 11am to 4.30pm; Wednesday, 24 April, 1pm to 4.30pm.
Follow the Cadbury’s Easter egg trail at Cilgerran Castle
The Cadbury’s Easter egg family trail returns to Cilgerran Castle.
Cryptic clues will be hidden around the castle grounds, with a delicious Cadbury’s Easter egg to reward those clever enough to solve the riddle.
The trail takes place from 10am to 4.30pm from Friday to Monday, 19 to 22 April.
