CEREDIGION council has said that it is “disappointing” that residents “do not respect and value the local environment by dealing with their litter responsibly and legally” after a brook in Aberystwyth became blocked with thrown-away rubbish, causing a flooding risk.
Resident Roger Owen said the brook is “constantly” full of litter, with “bottles thrown consistently into the stream” at Blaendolau which runs along the road towards Morrisons.
Mr Owen said the problem is causing flooding problems, and “needs to be cleared of debris and rubbish” as soon as possible.
“The brook in places is so bunged up with rubbish that water has nowhere to go,” he told the Cambrian News.
“It’s just bad maintenance, and if it’s not cleared soon and there’s any kind of excessive rain, it could flood the footpath which is a main route for residents into Aberystwyth.
“People could be cut off. I hope something is done soon.”
Ceredigion council said it would look into the matter.
A council spokesperson said: “It is obviously disappointing that a small minority of people who cause such problems do not respect and value the local environment by dealing with their litter responsibly and legally.”
The council advised any residents to contact the council directly via email at [email protected] or by phone 01545 572572 should they wish to request a service for which the council is responsible.
