A maintenance plan for Machynlleth Town Clock must be followed, to ensure the town council isn’t left facing large bills for repair work, a town councillor has said.
Glenda Jenkins, who launched a major fundraising effort to renovate the town clock during her tenure as mayor, said that after the work was carried out on the clock, the council had commissioned an architect to produce a maintenance plan to try to head off any problems and avoid any potentially costly work.
But Cllr Jenkins said she had not seen any information to suggest that the plan is being followed.
She said: “I haven’t seen anything about what is being done under that plan.
“We have a maintenance plan and should be following it.”
Town council clerk Jim Griffiths said, while work was needed recently to replace the electrical system in the clock, it was unlikely that would have been picked up as part of the maintenance plan.
He said that regular inspections are carried out on the clock to identify any potential problems.
However, Cllr Jenkins said: “There’s a difference between standard checks and following a written maintenance plan.”
Mr Griffiths said he had not seen any plan since taking over as clerk.
He added that he would find the maintenance plan and bring it back to a future meeting of the town council.
