AN ABERYSTWYTH food group has wowed parents, teachers and children of a local school following their latest community café event.

Aber Food Forum, working with Aber Food Surplus, a group which accepts waste food from supermarkets and reuses or redistributes it in Aberystwyth, held its latest community café at St Padarn’s School, Llanbadarn Fawr, on Tuesday, 2 May.

The community café events see Aber Food Forum team up with local organisations and businesses to provide free meals, and provides an opportunity to discuss food issues in the town.

More than 60 people turned up to the event, which was the first to be held at the school.

Live music was provided as people spoke about the food redistribution project while sharing a meal of vegetable soup, vegetable curry, rice, potato wedges, onion bhajis and a dessert of apple crumble.

The volunteers worked together with the school to cook and produce the meal.

Chris Woodfield, of Aber Food Forum, said: “It was fantastic to bring the community café and surplus food events to a new audience of the parents, teachers and children at St Padarn’s Primary School."
