“GREAT things” are happening with food in Aberystwyth.

That was the verdict after a wide-ranging Aber Food Forum event on how to reduce food waste in the town last month.

‘Let’s talk about food’, held at the Morlan Centre on 13 February, was aimed at bringing together different groups involved in food projects to identify potential partners for future food projects.

Naomi Salmon, who gave a talk on ‘food assemblies’, said: “Lots of people came along to join our conversation about local food.

“We covered a lot of ground — from the benefits of micro dairies and growing more Welsh grain, to the environmental impact of dredging in Cardigan Bay and the wonders of lacto-fermentation.

“From the importance of reducing food waste and the utility of the Food Assembly model as a way to invigorate the local food economy, to the amazing achievements of grass-roots growing projects — it was a really productive and enjoyable day.”

Photographer Felix Cannadam said: “Various organizations come together to share the different ways that they are helping to tackle food waste in their community.

“An opportunity for people to bring their own ideas and have conversations about the reduction of food waste.

“There are some great things going on in Aberystwyth, with growing projects, with lots of potential. Now is a great time to get involved.”

Jane Powell added: “Diolch i bawb am ddiwrnod gwych. Thank you everyone for a great day - so good to meet so many food enthusiasts all at once, and such generosity all round.”
