A football tournament is to be held in Porthmadog in memory of a much-missed father-of-two.
Kristian Ley Roberts, a 38-year-old chef from Tremadog, will be the focus of a fundraising day at Y Traeth, Porthmadog’s FC ground, with hundreds of attendees expected.
Kristian died in September 2016 while cycling to work, devastating the local community.
He had been found unconscious on the roadside of the A487, between Minffordd and Penrhyndeudraeth, and is believed to have died of natural causes despite being in “excellent” physical health.
Kristian worked as a pastry chef at Portmeirion and was recognised as a dedicated worker and family man.
A very well-attended football match in memory of Kristian was first conceived by his father, Stanley, two years ago, who considered it a fitting tribute for his sports-loving son.
Two teams, composed of former teammates from Llanystumdwy and Porthmadog, lined up last April for a poignant memorial game.
Following its success, where over £1,500 was raised for Wales Air Ambulance and children’s cancer charity Gafael Llaw, Stanley is now looking to hold the event every year.
A five-a-side tournament will be held on 5 May for the former Ysgol Eifionnydd pupil.
Money raised this year will be donated to Aberglaslyn mountain rescue team.
Those interested in playing in the Kristian Ley Roberts Memorial Tournament are encouraged to call Stanley on 01766 513754.
