A CHARITY football tournament to remember a much-missed father-of-two has raised hundreds of pounds for local causes.

Kristian Ley Roberts, from Tremadog, was remembered at a fund-raising day at Y Traeth, Porthmadog’s FC home ground.

Kristian died in September 2016 whilst cycling to work. The 38-year-old worked as a pastry chef at Portmeirion and was recognised as a dedicated worker and family man.

A well-attended football match in memory of Kristian was first conceived by Kristian’s father, Stanley, last year. This year, 16 teams battled it out to win a five-a-side tournament in with the Kristian Ley Memorial trophy eventually won by Hogia Penrhyn.

The poor weather affected the number of spectators this year but, even so, over £800 was raised on the day.

The money will be split between Porthmadog’s Ambulance Station and Ysgol Eifionnydd, where they will fund a new oxygen unit to sit alongside a new defibrillator.

Organiser Stan Roberts, Kristian’s father, was pleased with how the event progressed.

“Considering the weather, it was a really good day,” Stan told the Cambrian News. “We raised £800, I’m more than pleased.

“The lads all had a good time and we’re looking forward to next year, now we’ve secured sponsorship from Tesco Porthmadog.

“As long as my wife and I are fit and healthy, the Kristian Ley Memorial Day will be an annual event.”
