A FORMER mayor who came to Dolgellau on holiday and never left is celebrating 60 years of marriage today.
Town councillor Ray Stubbs and his wife Betty were first married in Emmanuel Church, Birmingham on 22 December 1956.
The smitten duo were then on holiday in Dolgellau five years later when Ray was offered a job working in a caravan park.
He took up the job offer, never looked back and eventually spent his working life in the building trade until his retirement.
The marriage has endured its highs and lows, but Cllr Stubbs could not be happier.
When asked how the pair had managed to keep the romance alive for six decades, he said the secret of a good marriage is “never go to bed with an argument still going on”.
“Betty is a most wonderful lady,” he continued.
“She stood by me when I lost my leg to cancer when others would not have done the same.”
