TYWYN’S Wales Air Ambulance charity shop welcomed Malcolm ‘Taff’ Davies when he dropped in during his charity fund-raising walk around Wales.
Taff, who is raising money for Wales Air Ambulance and The Hearing Impaired Unit at Ysgol Parcyrhun school at Ammanford, arrived in Tywyn on Friday, 30 June.
After a coffee and a brief rest, Taff then set off to walk along the beach to Aberdyfi, accompanied by Tywyn charity shop manager Abigail Severn-Benson, together with WAA volunteers Roy Earl, Trina Hawkes and Eirlys Griffiths.
Taff, who is a 65-year-old former Royal Marine, has spent much of the last 11 years walking various routes around Great Britain to raise money for different causes.
On his latest venture Taff is walking the border of Wales via Offa’s Dyke path and Wales Coastal Path, anti-clockwise – a journey he started on 13 May from Carmarthen.
“I have now covered about 725 miles of the 1,030 miles I have to walk in order to arrive back in Carmarthen, hopefully by 22 July,” he said.
“So far its been great, everyone has been very supportive and I have had a lot of people joining me for part of the route – as people are today. I have a tent with me for camping out at night, but so many generous people have been offering me accommodation, so I have hardly had to use it.
“Sadly my wife Audrey died in 2005. As we lived in Arbroath, Scotland we had planned to walk the West Highland Way together and then also along Hadrian’s Wall. During the two years after Audrey died I completed both of these walks, and really I suppose I haven’t stopped walking since!
“I’d like to thank everyone for all their support along the way, and for giving so generously to both of these tremendous causes. I am having a wonderful time and also meeting some great people along my route.”
