A RENOVATED charity shop is handing out clothes to the most vulnerable in their community.
On Monday, 5 March Barmouth Elim Church re-opened their shop Revelation after a prolonged period of refurbishment.
Initially Revelation was established to provide a Christian resource – selling Christian books, Bibles, greeting cards – but since opening 14 years ago things have changed to reflect the store’s “wider involvement” in the community and there is a much greater range of items for sale, including pictures, clothes and footwear. Revelation is an important aspect of the work done through the church and Barmouth Oasis Community Group.
As the premises are used by many community groups it is an anonymous ‘way in’ for clients attending Shelter, Credit Union, Bereavement Counselling, Foodbank, Advocacy, the twice weekly Drop-In or any other activity.
Dawn Robinson, pastor of Elim Church said: “The shop was looking very tired and we wanted to bring it more up to date.
“In addition to renewing the floor covering we have totally changed the layout to accommodate the extra space needed for our new or nearly new clothing.
“We now have lots of clothes and shoes for sale to suit both adults and children and we are able to give them free of charge to foodbank clients others in need such as those who are homeless.
“Also, in association with the school, we now stock good quality second hand uniforms for Ysgol Y Traeth pupils. These again can be given to those in need or a donation can be made.”
Dave Hooper, a key figure in the church, added: “Our volunteers have worked hard to get the shop open again and it was great to see so many customers, new and old, filling the shop on Monday when free coffee and cake was made available to all who came to see the new look.
“We do hope that people like what we have done and we would like to thank all those who have contributed in any way.”
