A NUMBER of fascinating historical buildings, gardens, interesting and unusual locations throughout Gwynedd will be open to the public for free this September.

Do you fancy cavorting around a castle? Ambling through archives? Meandering about a museum?

As part of CADW’s ‘Open Doors’ scheme, dozens of building throughout Gwynedd and Conwy will open their doors to the public on days during the month as part of an annual programme that celebrates Wales’ architectural heritage.

Properties range from churches including St Mark’s Church, Brithdir and Capel Carmel, Aberdaron to Cae‘r Gors, Caernarfon; Plas Glyn y Weddw, Llanbedrog; as well as the Meirionnydd Records Office and the Lloyd George Museum in Llanystumdwy.

This year, the programme includes a number of sites that are associated with the Welsh Slate World Heritage Nomination, including Penrhyn Castle, Bangor; Porthmadog Maritime Museum and the Quarry Hospital at Llanberis.

Throughout September, events and activities will also be held at locations across both counties with opportunities for local residents and visitors to get a taste of the area’s history and heritage.

More properties and events are being added all the time, and can be seen on CADW’s website at www.cadw.gov.wales/opendoors using the event finder.
