Family and friends gathered on a Tywyn street this afternoon to wish a happy birthday to Wilfred Kirkham as he turns 100.

Wilfred Glyn Kirkham of Tywyn, widow of the late Dylis Kirkham and stepfather to Derick Finestone, turned 100 today.

Wilfred is finding staying in very difficult but with the help and care of friend Helen Evans, he’s managing to stay safe and well.

Friends and neighbours gathered outside his house to sing him a grand Happy Birthday organised by Helen.

Around 25 people lined the streets, keeping metres apart.

Wilfred received a basket of goodies from Adra, the housing association, and a card from the Queen to mark his centenary.

Wilfred worked at the Holgate factory for many years and was a familiar face along the Dyfi riverbank where he walked his and friend’s dogs.

He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and was a keen footballer in his day.
