TWO long-time pals from Cardigan who were offered adjoining single flats in the town well over a year ago have spoken of their “heartbreak” on learning that the offer has been withdrawn.
Former shopkeepers Marcia Lewis, 51, and Michael Anslow, 64, were told they could move into neighbouring first-floor single-bedroom flats in Teifi Bach in August 2015.
But their joy turned to frustration as their moving-in date was put back by housing association Tai Ceredigion.
And at the end of September the pair – who had even redirected their mail to the Teifi Bach address in anticipation of their move - were finally told the offer was being withdrawn due to “planning issues”.
Tai Ceredigion said the issue arose after a main contractor went bust, and that the episode has been “frustrating and stressful” for all concerned.
Fighting back tears, Marcia – a grandmother-of-five – told the Cambrian News. “When I took that phone call from the housing manager I think I went into shock.
“I just burst into tears and had to hand my mobile over to Michael.
“I’ve had anxiety and depression and if it hadn’t been for our local councillor Mark Cole, Michael himself and my best friend I don’t think I’d still be here, to be quite honest.
“This year has been horrendous.”
Tai Ceredigion confirmed planning issues were still unresolved, but pledged that prospective tenants would be given re-housing priority.
