Madam,

This week we have welcomed visitors from the Netherlands to our holiday accommodation and our neighbour has guests from France. Last week we had guests from Poland. This year already we have received visitors from Germany, France, Spain and Finland.

All of these guests eat and drink in Barmouth’s pubs and restaurants. They all shop in the town’s shops and visit the attractions in the area. Our friends in EU countries are important not only to our business, but to the wider economy of Gwynedd. If we vote to leave the EU this will be jeopardised. It is quite possible that in future such visitors would need a visa to come to Wales. But perhaps even more importantly they will no longer feel that they are welcome having heard the anti-foreigner messages peddled by Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.

The economy of this area is virtually unaffected by immigration from the EU, whereas it benefits greatly from its tourism.

We should be careful what we wish for!

Yours etc

Anne Bennett

Barmouth.
