FRIENDS Mair Roberts, Carys Owens, Angharad Lloyd, Debbie Davies and Jenny Evans from the Rhydlewis and Newcastle Emlyn areas have so far raised £870 for four charities following their gruelling London Moonwalk event organised by Walk the Walk.

Dressed in a bra and in fancy dress, the ladies who called themselves Shwti Boi, joined thousands of other women from across the UK in this annual fundraising event.

The money they raised will go towards Breast Cancer Now, Penny Brohn UK, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and Tenovus in the UK.

In Wales, Tenovus has received funding for a new mobile cancer support unit which takes chemotherapy and lymphatic treatments out to cancer patients in rural areas.

Jenny Evans said: “The MoonWalk challenge started at 10.30pm in Clapham Common with walkers following either a 15.1 or 26.2-mile route past London’s most famous landmarks including Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace. All MoonWalkers, even men, are encouraged to walk wearing decorated bras to raise awareness about breast cancer.

This year was the 20th anniversary of the London MoonWalk and the theme ‘Roaring 1920s’ was chosen to celebrate the occasion.

Inspiration was taken from 1920’s flapper fashion and there were tassels, feathers and sequins aplenty!”

The walkers arrived back at Clapham Common in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Shwti boi would like to thank everyone for their messages of encouragement and generous donations.
