THREE former Tregaron school friends have smashed their target by raising almost £2,000 for an Alzheimer’s charity after a 30-hour walk around the Isle of Wight.

It was reported in the Cambrian News in February that former Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron schoolmates, Holly Corlett, 23, along with Rhiain Davies and Catherine Jones, both 22, were planning the 66-mile walk around the largest and most populous island in England.

The trio were hoping to raise £1,200 in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity very close to the hearts of all three girls, but particularly Rhiain, whose grandmother suffers with the disease.

But after a gruelling 29 hours and 51 minutes of walking, the girls have confirmed they far exceeded their initial target after raising a staggering £1,969,64.

“We completed the 66 miles in a time of 29 hours and 51 minutes and raised a total of £1,969.64, thrashing our target of £1,185,” Holly told the Cambrian News. “We would like to thank everyone who donated and supported us along the way.”
