Madam,
Full marks to the parents who are campaigning against illegal parking at the entrance to Plas Crug school , in Aberystwyth, as reported in the 31 December issue of the Cambrian News. Children are not just at risk of accidents: car exhaust emissions are also an invisible killer. Over 28,000 people a year are killed by fine particulates, of which diesel engines are a major source, and school entrances are particularly bad for this lethal pollution as was shown on the TV programme Trust Me I’m a Doctor.
As the parents point out, you can use the council car park on Boulevard de Saint-Brieuc and walk across the footbridge to the school. The fewer cars at the school entrance, the better it will be for the well-being of everyone, especially the children.
Yours etc
Laurie Wright
Dan-y-Coed,
