Coastal defence plans for Aberystwyth will be drawn up after the Welsh Government confirmed it would fund an outline design for a scheme.
A council spokesperson confirmed that plans are expected to be drawn up in the next few months, including an outline design.
That will then have to be considered with the council likely to apply for further funding from the Welsh Government.
The council spokesperson said: “Welsh Government has confirmed that funding is available to undertake further detailed modelling and the development of an outline design. This work is being procured and will be carried out in the next few months.”
Early proposals for the Aberystwyth scheme include an overtopping defence wall at the back of the promenade as well as bolstering the current sea wall.
It had been hoped that work could begin on the Aberystwyth scheme in autumn next year as funding under the Welsh Government scheme means work must begin before April 2022.
The scheme for work at Aberaeron, which includes the replacement of the town’s South Pier and work to provide new groynes and repointing of the current harbour wall, would be expected to start in spring 2020 with a design already drawn up.
