Fundraisers from Meirionnydd have been awarded the Bryn Davies Bowl, in recognition of their fantastic support of farming charity RABI.

Volunteers collected the prize from NFU vice-president Stuart Roberts in front of more than 230 guests at RABI’s AGM/annual conference in Oxfordshire last week.

The Bryn Davies Bowl is awarded to ‘the individual, organisation, company or club which makes the greatest contribution to RABI in Wales’.

And 2018 was certainly a great year for RABI’s Merionethshire committee, a hardworking band of committed volunteers and fundraisers.

They celebrated their 30th anniversary and held a memorable anniversary concert; securing financial support from 32 businesses and community councils.

Joshua Hosier, RABI deputy chairman, said: “Each and every committee member secured support for the concert through sponsorship and donated prizes. This involved a huge amount of work and ensured £5,402 was raised. The concert was also a very effective and successful way of raising public awareness about RABI’s work.”

The charity conference brought together staff, volunteers, committee members and corporate supporters from all over England and Wales.

Stuart Roberts, guest speaker, paid tribute to RABI by saying: “Farming is not like any other sector, we’re actually part of a community and RABI is the bedrock of that.”

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution is farming’s oldest and largest charity, providing financial support, advice and practical help to farming people of all ages.
