Editor,

On 20 February my wife attempted to get a doctor’s appointment in Lampeter Surgery.

At precisely 8.30am my wife and I joined what I can only describe as the morning game of roulette in an attempt to get an appointment.

After many redials she finally spoke to a receptionist who said there were no more appointments available as there was only one doctor available!

This is the norm. A patient has to ring at precisely 8.30am and if you do not get an answer within five minutes then you might as well give up! Lampeter and Llanybydder surgeries are not taking on more patients.

Dentists’ books are full with only one NHS dentist (with only two dentists available), in Lampeter!

The ambulances based in Lampeter are also facing problems, due to the vast area they cover and delays in the two over-crowded hospitals means they can be unavailable to answer emergency calls and have to be supported by retained fire crews acting as first responders!

Lampeter is in a house building boom.

With a very large increase in families moving into the vicinity, there seems to have been little to no consideration given to the infrastructure.

The schools, both junior and senior, are full to capacity as far away as, and including, Tregaron.

The A482 road that runs through the centre of Lampeter is dangerous over loaded particularly with large lorries passing through and lorries making delivery to the local shops and businesses!

Lampeter is bursting at the seams. Children have very little to do except ride their bikes or cause a nuisance!
