AFTER Ceredigion County Council repainted the bridge over the River Cledlyn in Cwrtnewydd, green-fingered residents had the idea of enhancing it even more with flowers.
A local community group, Pobl Cwrtnewydd People, in conjunction with the community council, invited residents to ‘adopt’ a trough and fill them with blooms.
There was no shortage of willing volunteers and the 10 troughs were soon filled with flowering plants.
The bridge has attracted many compliments. “Makes me smile every time I go over the bridge – thanks to the gardeners – looks fab!” said local resident Chris Smith.
Cllr Euros Davies who supported the scheme from its inception said he was impressed with the way people have got involved and how it has enhanced the centre of the village.
“I’m very pleased with the success of this initiative which has brought many members of the community together” added Simon Evans, chair of the group,
Pobl Cwrtnewydd People was created one year ago by volunteers keen to promote community activities in the village.
In their first year the group have transformed a disused phone box into a book swap and organised many events including coffee mornings, quiz nights, plant swaps, a treasure hunt, a local history talk and a bingo evening.
