A FUND set up to help the grieving family of an Aberystwyth rugby legend has smashed it's £5,000 target in a matter of days - currently standing at over £8,000.

The JustGiving page called Cronfa Goffa Eifion Gwynne Memorial Fund was launched on Tuesday and aims to raise money for the family of Eifion Gwynne, the 41-year-old father-of-three who tragically died after being struck by a car following a funeral in Spain.

At the time of writing on Friday, the page had raised £8,205, smashing its target of £5,000, with one anonymous donor giving a massive £1,000 on Thursday, and the figure rising by the minute.

Donations are being received, on behalf of the family, including Eifion’s wife Nia and their three children, by Mr & Mrs Gwyn a Janet Evans, Plas Brongenau, Llandre, Aberystwyth, SY24 5BS; or you can donate by visiting: www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/cronfaeifion

Also, Llandovery RFC are holding two special fund-raising events in aid of Eifion’s family at their home game versus Pontypridd tonight, Friday, 4 November.

Former teammates of Eifion will be undertaking a bucket collection before, during and after the game, followed by an auction of rugby memorabilia to add to the funds raised on the evening.

Llandovery RFC, with whom Eifion won the Challenge Cup Final in 2007, a game in which he was awarded Man of the Match, are asking for any items which can be donated to this important cause.

Anyone with items they would like to donate are asked to contact Gina Deering in the Club office on: [email protected]; or by calling: 01550 721110.
