Madam,

Judging by comments made by the various speakers during the recent ‘Cymru i Bawb: Harmony not Hatred’ event in Aberystwyth, reported in the Cambrian News, many people’s genuine concerns about the excess level of immigration into the UK are just being dismissed as racism, prejudice, or xenophobia.

While this country has an honourable tradition of welcoming immigrants and genuine refugees who have something positive to contribute to the UK economy by filling jobs where there are real skill shortages, Britain has, unfortunately, become a soft touch to hundreds of thousands of economic migrants and benefit seekers whose presence is putting enormous pressure on our NHS, education and housing. Imported unskilled labour is also responsible for driving down the wages of indigenous workers.

While all racist attacks need to be condemned, including those much less reported attacks by immigrants on British people in some of our major cities, it is simply not racist to believe that Britain should have the right to control its own borders, just like Australia, and thereby decide who enters the UK.

The main reason people voted for Brexit on British Independence Day, on 23 June, was to take back control of our economy, laws, borders and particularly immigration policy. We just cannot continue to have to cater for a net increase of well over a quarter of a million people in the UK every year, due to rising and virtually uncontrolled immigration. Britain is almost full. It’s time to close the gate and only open it when we decide to do so.

Yours etc
