A Ceredigion football club is rallying behind a youth player who is undergoing chemotherapy by taking part in an epic challenge.

Clwb Pêl Droed Felinfach and the community as a whole has set themselves a virtual challenge to walk, cycle or run from their Football field in Felinfach (SA48 8AE) to Cambridge Football Club in New Zealand and back – covering over 20,000 miles.

They are taking on the challenge in support of one of their youth players, Steffan Morgan.

The money raised from donations will be shared between the Teenage Cancer Trust and also with Steffan Morgan who is a Felinfach Under 16s Team Member.

The epic challenge has already covered over 5,000 miles and raised in excess of £4,000.

The team has also received a video messages of support from Welsh cycling legend Geraint Thomas and Taron Egerton, who also donated £500 to the cause.

Back in October 2020, Steffan was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer called Sarcoma which affects the tissues that connect, support, and surround other body structures and organs.

Steffan so far has undergone 15 weeks of Chemotherapy in Cardiff and since January this year has had nearly seven weeks of Proton Beam Therapy and Chemotherapy at The Christie in Manchester. The first round of this treatment will continue until April this year.

A spokesperson for the club said: “Although Steffan is going through a challenging time, he remains positive with the help of his family and his twin brother Sion and sister Soffi.

“He is looking forward to the day he can return to play football and to get back on a bike so that he can build back his strength. He also wants to prove that he can still beat his Twin brother Sion in a race!

“The challenge the club is taking on is nothing compared to what Steffan and other youngsters with cancer are having to face daily.

“If you are in a position and are able to donate any amount, whether small or large you will be helping these youngsters to access new treatments and to live as normal a life as they can during their treatments.”
