I was really sorry to hear that our lovely arts centre is unable to reopen this month as planned due to flood damage after the recent storm, especially after they had worked so hard to make their facilities Covid-secure.
I used to travel to Aberystwyth regularly from the Welshpool area specifically to participate in various art courses, as well as for the theatre and for exhibitions.
Since moving just outside the town about 15 months ago, I have been an enthusiastic participant in various art courses and was missing them very much during lockdown. So I was delighted, but a bit apprehensive, when I heard that some online sessions were on offer.
I didn’t think I would take to Zoom classes at all, but they have been really enjoyable and what occurs to me is that these courses could make the arts centre more accessible to anyone living in a rural area, or if they have any personal mobility problems.
I have just finished a five-week expressive art course, suitable for all abilities, and plan to join the next series (one is sketching, the other is watercolour painting) which start on Monday afternoons and Thursday evenings in September.
I would really encourage anyone to give it a go (you can just join for one session if you’re not sure) as not only does it support the arts centre, it is an excellent opportunity to be creative in a supportive and friendly environment.
