A 50TH wedding anniversary provided a ‘golden’ fund-raising opportunity for emergency teams.

Like many others, Sandy and Steve Neville wanted to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends.

However, they went a step further and invited all the residents of Cwmystwyth, near Devil’s Bridge in Ceredigion, to help celebrate their important day.

The pair hosted a village fete, with games, stalls, raffles, auction and the village choir, and the day raised a massive £2,250 for two charities.

Half was donated to Blood Bikes Wales, a voluntary group that provides blood transportation throughout the country.

The other half was given to Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, of which their son Dave is an active member.

Granddaughter Skye also collected everyone’s loose change, raising an additional £58.75.

Rescue volunteer Dave was greatly impressed by his parents’ efforts.

“On behalf of Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team I’d like to say a massive thanks to my parents and the generosity of all the residents of Cwmystwyth,” he said.See this week's north editions for the full story, in shops and online on Thursday
