A GRAND total of 34 local good causes have been chosen to benefit from more than £7,500 raised through the 2017 Cambrian News Charity Aberystwyth 10k.

Applications were invited for a share of the £7,503 raised as proceeds from the race held at the beginning of December.

The Cambrian News is the main sponsor of the race, which is organised by Aberystwyth Athletics Club and Carl Williams.

The race raises thousands of pounds for charities each year and thousands of pounds of sponsorship is also raised by runners, who donate their money direct to the charities of their choice.

The successful applicants this year are as follows: 2nd Borth Scout Group, £100; Aberystwyth & District Stroke Club, £200; Aberystwyth & District Visually Impaired Club, £200; Aberystwyth Cats Protection, £100; Aberystwyth Friendship Group, £250; Aberystwyth Kronberg Twinning, £170.

Aberystwyth Showtime Singers, £150; Aberystwyth Silver Band, £200; Advice Mid Wales Machynlleth, £200; Age Cymru Ceredigion, £450; Blood Bikes Wales, Aberystwyth, £450; Bow Street Hockey Club, £200; Budokan Llanrhystud Judo Club, £200; CAMAD, Machynlleth & District, £200; Cardiac Unit, Bronglais, £450; Clwb Cymdeithasol Penmorfa Social Club, £250.
