Madam,
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all donors to Jubilee Storehouse, the food bank covering Aberystwyth and the surrounding area.
Earlier this year, because of the closure of Budgens, there were no donation baskets in any of the town supermarkets and stocks had become dangerously low at the food bank.
Following an article in the Cambrian News, however, Tesco, Morrisons and the Penparcau Co-op agreed to allow us to place donation points in their stores, for which we are very grateful.
Since then we have gone from strength to strength, even running a reserve of stock for a few items, and we would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all who have contributed to helping the people of Aberystwyth and area who have hit on hard times. The recent harvest festivals in churches and schools have also been of enormous help in filling our shelves.
Sadly, far from becoming redundant, the food bank is busier than ever. Everyone collecting a parcel has been referred to us by an agency, such as social services, CAB, refuges or homeless organisations. No-one can just ‘pick up a parcel’, and regrettably the rate of referrals has increased in recent months.
Our needs vary from week to week and, while we are grateful for all contributions, we list our particular current needs weekly on the Jubilee Storehouse Facebook page, as well as on the baskets in the three supermarkets.
One last thing: increased use means that Jubilee Storehouse is in need of more volunteers, particularly to hand out food parcels to clients. If you can spare two or three hours or so each week, please contact Malcolm Dye via the Jubilee Storehouse Facebook page or by email to [email protected]s.
Yours etc,
Malcolm Dye, on behalf of Jubilee Storehouse.
