AN ARMY of volunteers donned their wellies to help clear invasive plantlife in Tanygrisiau.

Volunteers along with contractors are working hard to control the spread of Rhododendron ponticum in Tanygrisiau.

Y Dref Werdd employed the services of Keep Wales Tidy officers to carry out the specialised work of treating the stumps of the plants cut by volunteers and spraying of the younger plants, whereas volunteers worked hard in clearing the cut trees and burning them on site.

Rhododendron ponticum is not a native plant to the area and originally comes from Spain and Portugal, where it was planted in the stately homes of quarry owners.

It has now spread to many areas in Bro Ffestiniog.

Two more similar days have been organised by Y Dref Werdd to continue the work with Keep Wales Tidy and volunteers on Thursday, 7 April and Friday, 8 April.
