A GROUP of Ceredigion friends, and a duo from Aberystwyth, will travel to Calais next month to spend a week volunteering in the refugee camps.
Both volunteer groups are calling on Aberystwyth residents to donate much-needed supplies.
Aberystwyth residents banded together in several groups during the height of the crisis to donate truck-loads of supplies to help refugees in the make-shift camps which sprang up in Calais and across mainland Europe, and both teams of volunteers have said that the crisis is “ongoing” and needs support.
Steven Shepherd and Heather Scott from Aberystwyth are scheduled to go over to work in the camp, which houses thousand of Syrian refugees fleeing the war-torn country, on 8 October.
“It is a massive task to feed, clothe and house the thousands of unfortunate people who find themselves in this awful situation,” Steven told the Cambrian News.
“Heather and I are scheduled to go over to work in the camp for a period of time on 8 October and will be hiring a vehicle to transport some much needed supplies to take over with us.
“In order to make this trip as effective as possible I am inviting anyone in Aberystwyth who would like to donate items to please consider doing so.”
Anyone with any items to donate can contact Steven on 01970 623871 or 07881 511176 or Heather on 07577 612824. Alternatively, email [email protected].
