A POPULAR former Aberystwyth councillor who underwent life-saving brain surgery is said to be recovering “extremely well” at home after he was transferred to Bronglais Hospital.
It was reported in the Cambrian News last week that Goronwy Edwards MBE, also known as Groxy, was rushed to the University of Wales Hospital in the Heath, Cardiff, for emergency surgery due to a build-up of blood on the brain.
In April, Goronwy was injured when he fell in the town centre, and has fallen a few times since. His family say it is possible the problem resulted from one of the falls.
Goronwy, both a county and town councillor for Penparcau for 44 years, is now said to be recovering well at home after he was transferred to Bronglais Hospital last Wednesday afternoon, just five days after neurosurgeons operated on him for two hours.
Goronwy’s son Simon told the Cambrian News this week of his surprise at his dad’s rapid recovery, but put it down to the fact Goronwy was so healthy he had not needed to attend hospital for 82 years.
