A BLAENPENNAL man who spoke of the days he “didn’t want to wake up” while dealing with a serious illness has helped raise more than £4,000 for charity.
Gwion Savill was a “fit and healthy” 30-year-old man who weighed 13 stone when he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis/Crohn’s disease in June 2012.
Soon after, Gwion lost four stone in weight and was undergoing major surgery in an attempt to save his life.
Having since recovered from his illness, Gwion, alongside his friends in the Team Bont mountain biking club (pictured), competed in the 60km Dyfi Enduro race on 1 May, and helped raise £4,200 for Crohn’s and Colitis UK.
Gwion told the Cambrian News: "Even though I found it tough, I do feel it has really helped me put a few demons to bed and put the last three-and-a-half years behind me once and for all.
“I can’t thank people enough for their support and donations, and I still can’t quite believe we raised so much – the total is over £4,200.
“A massive thank you to Team Bont and friends who helped me round. I can safely say I won’t be seeing you again next year.”
