Gwynedd Council has launched a campaign to engage with older people across the county to find out what is important to them.

To coincide with this year’s theme, the campaign will ask Gwynedd’s older people what people, places, activities and services that are important to them, the barriers that prevent them from accessing them and what’s missing or needs to be improved.

This will help the council paint a picture of the strengths of Gwynedd's communities, understand what is holding older people back from taking advantage of the opportunities available, and identify what is needed or could be improved.

It will also ensure what is learnt influences the work of Age-friendly Gwynedd and the wider work of the council and its partners.

Cllr Dilwyn Morgan, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Well-being and Age-friendly Champion, said: “Listening to the voices of older people and understanding their experiences of ageing continues to be a key part of our work here in Gwynedd.

“Back in April 2024, Gwynedd received recognition from the World Health Organisation for our work towards becoming an age-friendly community. Since then, we have continued to build on this work with the aim of ensuring that Gwynedd is a good place to live and grow older.

“We want to hear directly from older people about what's on their doorstep, what's working well in their communities, and what could be improved. What we hear will help us to continue to develop Gwynedd as a good place to live and grow older.”

The council will meet older people across the county, attending group sessions in residential homes, calling into local community groups, and discussing with individuals in receipt of social services.
