A BALA hairdresser is to star in a new fly-on-the-wall documentary this Friday.
Y Salon is a new factual entertainment series filmed in seven hairdressers around the country.
Each week, starting tonight, Friday, viewers can eavesdrop on some of the interesting conversations that take place while regular customers get their hair done as they discuss major news and trivialities with their stylist.
According to a poll carried out in 2016, hairdressing is one of the professions British people trust most - with 69 per cent saying they would trust hairdressers to tell the truth.
This means people trust their hairdressers more than the police and television news readers. But that comes as no surprise to Gary Jones, one of the stylists in the series.
“People will tell you everything once they’re in the chair,” said Gary, who has been cutting hair for 23 years. “I’ve heard so many people’s problems; they say things to me they wouldn’t even tell their partners. The conversation really flows!”
As the styling starts and the conversation develops, the hairdressers and clients discuss everything, from tabloid stories about celebrities to the serious news stories of the day, and from local news to personal gossip. And with the S4C series starting, Gary’s looking forward to giving the people of Wales a taste of his everyday life.
“I think this job is the most interesting in the world and it will be the perfect opportunity for people to see what happens behind the scenes in a hair salon. It’s not as glamorous as people think and no matter how bad a day you’re having, or what the customers are telling you, you have to carry on as usual - because when the customer is comfortable, that’s when they say what they really think!”, said Gary.
