A YOUNG hairdressing apprentice in Lampeter, whose ambition is to work on celebrity photoshoots, has secured a two-week work experience placement in Spain.

Roxanne White, 19, who works for Andrew Price in Lampeter, has joined six other apprentices on the flight to Tarragona, where they will work in salons and attend workshops at the Schwarzkopf Academy, Barcelona, and the Institute Cal Lipolis, the college partner for the visit.

Roxanne’s apprenticeship is being delivered by Andrew Price Group, a sub-contractor of Bridgend-based ISA Training, the largest independent hair and beauty training provider in Wales, who have organised the Spanish work experience placement with funding support from the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme for education, training, youth and sport.

All the apprentices have been receiving Spanish lessons since last December to make it easier to converse with their hosts in Tarragona.

“I find the language very intriguing, but I really enjoy it,” said Roxanne, who lives near Aberystwyth. “I am looking forward to seeing how they work in Spain, particularly the blow-drying techniques and different hair types.”

She originally planned to seek a career as a beauty therapist, but fell in love with hairdressing following a work experience placement. Having almost completed her apprenticeship, she hopes to go on to do a level three barbering qualification. Her ambition is to one day work with celebrities on photoshoots.
