A local dog training club is celebrating after another sterling performance at the world’s biggest dog show.
Dysynni Dogs, based at Bwlchgwyn Farm at Arthog, which celebrates its fifth birthday this month, has grown from small beginnings to become firmly established in the Gwynedd area. As if to emphasise the ongoing success, for the fourth year running Dysynni Dogs has sent two handlers to the world’s biggest dog show Crufts.
For a small club to consistently produce handlers who perform so admirably on the big stage it is a fabulous achievement.
The two handlers who attended Crufts on Friday, 8 March were Sammie Cooper from Harlech with her seven-year-old collie Maddie and Eleri Jones from Caernarfon with her five-year-old collie, Nel.
Both handlers had been selected from applicants all across the country to take part in the Kennel Club Good Citizen dog scheme display at the show.
The scheme is run by the kennel club to promote responsible dog ownership and training. Crufts takes place at the NEC in Birmingham and Sammie and Eleri had both stayed overnight in Birmingham to be fresh and fully prepared for the tests to come. Other members of the club had travelled to Birmingham to support the pair.
Sammie and Eleri took part in a test and demonstration of achievement at Bronze standard. They were assessed early in the day to ascertain whether they were both capable of taking on the public demonstration later in the day. They behaved superbly and carried out the Bronze test with aplomb. Only six of the eight being tested passed showing the high standard expected.
